Production Registration
Tell Us About Your Production — Big or Small
Film Birmingham works to support and promote all types of film and media production across Jefferson County. Whether you’re filming a feature, a short, a commercial, or a student project, registering your production helps us understand the scope of local activity and strengthens our creative economy through accurate data and advocacy.
Registration is required for all feature films, television series, and professional productions.
If you’re producing a student film, micro-budget project, or smaller shoot that does not require permits or public safety support, you are not required to carry insurance — but we still encourage you to register. Sharing your information helps us track industry growth and connect filmmakers to resources and support.
If your production uses public property or involves high-impact activities (like street closures, stunts, or simulated violence), liability insurance and coordination with city services will be required.
**We understand sets and location scouting are fluid for filmmaking, and we will try to make accommodations if need be, but we ask that all productions adhere to the 3 weeks notice timeline so that we can seek approval for all necessary permits in a timely and appropriate manner. We cannot guarantee approval for any applications made after 3 weeks out from starting date of filming.***
